There are a number of different ways to receive digital television. An antenna is an old-fashioned but still popular way to receive transmissions for digital television. If you live in countries other than the USA, this might be called an aerial in your region. Other ways have been devised to receive digital television. If you are planning on receiving digital waves through an antenna, here are some tips. A word of warning, though. if you don’t feel like you can successfully install your own antennae, it’s better to let the pros do it.

Install it at a height that is well over your house’s. Installation should be as high as possible. UHF transmissions depend on the height of the receiver. Getting it higher means that there is a better chance that there will be less objects obstructing the line of sight between the signaling tower and your digital antenna. The rooftop is an ideal place to set up your antenna especially if you live far from the signal tower.

Outdoor installation is best. Indoor installation is easier and safer, but an outdoor installation is recommended. Indoor installation could mean a weaker signal. An outdoor antenna makes all the difference because there are less objects obstructing the signal. Your outdoor antenna can receive a clearer signal from the tower. Sometimes mounting your antenna in an attic can work quite well but again the digital signal will be forced to penetrate a roof before it reaches your antenna. With an outdoor antenna, you might get a few more channels.

Be sure to face the front of the antenna towards the transmitting tower. Do your research and figure out where the closest TV transmitting tower is. Do some research work, find out where the nearest transmission tower is and be sure to face the front of your antenna toward it. If you are not sure where the nearest antenna tower is, you can search online or go to your signal provider’s website.

The connectors on your antenna must be sealed so that they don’t corrode. Over time, your connectors might corrode and get damaged by rain and heat if you don’t take care of them. The longer the cable runs, and the more splitters the signal must pass through, the more signal loss. When there’s an electrical surge, a well-grounded antenna won’t be as badly damaged. This can be done using a coaxial surge protector. Without this, your antenna is in danger of getting badly burned by lightning.
